Here’s our regular listing of films being shown in English and other original languages (with labels such as OmU, OF and OV) at Leipzig cinemas for this movie week. Although not dubbed, they often come with German subtitles, so you can still access the movie if you don’t know the original language but know some German.
Some highlights of the original language movie circuit right now: Kinobar Prager Frühling will focus on Moroccan cinema this movie week with the film fest Fokus Marokko, which will play the movie Atlantic. on Thursday. Another piece of good news, since this week (we missed it at first, sorry), is the eagerly awaited animated film Minions being shown in the original a few times: Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Passage Kinos. Another popular movie series (more than that – an institution), the new Terminator (in 3D!) will play in the original, as usual for big blockbusters coming to town, at both Cinestar (Sunday and Wednesday) and Regina Palast (Monday). In the meantime, Sommerkino auf der Feinkost will once again feature Oscar winner Birdman, this Tuesday – and our MoviesAndTV columnist actually reviewed the movie here last week, which makes me happy. He is also a self-proclaimed fan of the highly versatile Viggo Mortensen, who stars in the drama Loin des hommes, also being played in the original this movie week (Thursday-Wednesday at Schauburg). If you want to go more alternative, the Cinémathèque in der naTo will feature on Monday the documentary Children 404 (in the sexuality-themed mini film fest CSD Leipzig), about “discrimination against [young] homosexuals in Russia.” Scroll down for details on where and when to watch these and other movies locally, in a large array of genres.
