Leipzig Events: If I were you, I would…

…Contribute ideas to and engage with refugee centers in the area. There’s a meetup at 6 this evening (Friday, August 21, for those like me who tend to lose track of today’s date) concerning some projects already in the works and other possibilities and creative ideas you may have in mind. Address: Georg Schumann Straße 130. More info on event page.

…Party at a park and meet other music lovers. What? You never chatted up strangers at a festival? Here’s your chance, starting tonight at 7. According to host Werk 2, this – Beatz im Block – has got “an open-air stage, high-profile artists, information booths and good music. Sounds like a festival. It is also, and yet quite different. Because the goal of this festival is not to take as much money, but to bring alternative culture to places where it is missing.” Address: Schönauer Park, Grünau. More info on event page.

…Dare to imagine more sustainable development for Leipzig. Wow. Now I really sound like a car, camera or development aid commercial. Or something. Sorry. Anyway… Theatre Impermanent invites you for a hangout and brainstorming session from 1-5 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, August 22 for their “Next Leipzig” theme week coming up in October. In their words: “An exhibition with visions of sustainable urban development, meeting places, getting to know more exciting projects and a cozy atmosphere with music and performances.” Sound good? Address: Social Impact Lab Leipzig, Weißenfelser Straße 65h. More info on event page.

…Shop and chill at a flea market. You know the drill. Also happening tomorrow afternoon – at 2. Out east. Address: Dresdner Straße 25. More info on event page.

…Go see an intriguing-sounding musical act. If the following description doesn’t at least pique your curiosity, I don’t know what will: “From archaic shamanism or temple chants, [this] sensitively coordinated band penetrates slowly into the present urban rhythms and electronic sound design and [gathers] ever more drive to finally ‘sometimes’ even shut down the system!” It’s the Annuluk sextet performing at 8 in the evening tomorrow. Address: Patiperro at Feinkost, Karl Liebknecht Straße 36. More info on event page

…Welcome some KAOS into your life. The good kind, of course. Check out all the cool stuff KAOS-Kultursommer has got to offer. Like, a hoola hoop workshop today, a liquid light painting one tomorrow, and an Italian theater classic on Wednesday, August 26. Address: Wasser Straße 18. More info on program page.

…Come up with something to perform at an open mic. And then actually perform it. A friend and I plan to make a fool of ourselves on stage. Care to join? Good news is you’ve got a whole week to prepare – it will happen next Friday, August 28, starting at 8 in the evening. These usually have a diverse range of newbie and experienced performers, and the audience is usually pretty supportive, so there’s nothing to worry about. They even smile politely and clap when I sing. Address: Poniatowski, Kreuz Straße 15. More info on event page.
