Continental Subway: Purposeful Randomness

Since I no longer drive, I’ve noticed I also no longer listen to the radio. I’m not sure if that’s because I’m not in my car or because the way we get music has drastically changed with the net. I say I never listen, but that’s not entirely true. The truth is when I do listen, I listen to Radio Blau. Because of its format, meaning each show lasts an hour and each hour is markedly different, I have heard some really inspiring music and some really  tragic tracks. That’s kind of the beauty of it. It is totally random.

It’s that randomness that David Dichelle thrives on and on his show the only common thread is that it’s in English. Last Tuesday Ana and I were there. He asked us to send a playlist. We both sent five songs. Since I was going to be talking a little about my art, I decided to choose songs that reminded me of events in my life that led to how I express myself now. Narrowing your evolution down to five songs was an enlightening exercise. You should try it. In the end we only ended up playing three each because we were so comfortable chatting with David.

Among other things we talked about our upcoming Leipzig Buchmesse events. We are pretty excited about the opportunity that Jolanta Drywa hooked us up with. She will be one of the bloggers taking part in our Friday night event. You may even get to hear some of her poetry.

David had good news: he’s going to be on every Tuesday evening at 10.00 from 29 March sharing more purposeful randomness. He has a special show Saturday 2 April with Gon Von Zola of The Budda Cakes, at 6 p.m. Gon grew up in Leipzig, but now lives in London. His songs are quirky and his lyrics are clever and catchy…….and often deliciously random.
