FUNkyFRIdayz: A Stones Throw away

/

Nostalgia is not a word I use much, but I have to admit this mix got me tripping about the days at the hip hop park sessions with Coca Cola in hand, my boys and jamming to epic old school underground hip hop. This selection from A Stones Throw’s not only represents the greatest era in hip hop but also the ingenuity, skill and just plain coolness of a genre used to going against norms.  It fights the ropes put in place by an extremely unfair system that holds so tight.

All I  hear every time a new song makes its way into the mix is “Keep fighting for a new day, son”.

DJ D-Fekt  features all the major tracks by J dilla, Madvillian, J Roc, MF Doom and some special tracks from Dudley Perkins and Peanutbutter Wolf. Finding any Album from either of those producers is like finding gold, I mean I just finally purchased the Jaylib Champion Sound which came out in 2003 and I still feel like I won the lotto. A soulful, funky, boombap-filled mix, reflecting probably the realest, cleanest and most exciting hip hop sound. I am old school myself and this mix really got me flying higher than Superman. Bump this on your way to walk, on your way to that meeting you hate so much and watch your mood change for the better. It worked for me, make it work for you too.
