FUNkyFRIdayz: Afro Koboko

in DJ/FUNkyFRIdayz/Party by

Our resident DJ Buti is offering up a booming little mix to put us in a much needed chilled head space. As the body becomes one with the flow, we can be transported to that place only dancing can take us. This is the shit that turned me on to African music in the first place.

Tomorrow it’s Christmas come early as DJ Buti plays at Afro Koboko.

And I do mean this is a gift! Feet and booty be moving, soul be lifting to some Azonto, a bit of that Hlokoloza, Pantsula, Yahoozee, Mapouka, Makossa, Alingo, Rhumba.

Afro Koboko is what they call “African Hits” in Nigeria, but this ain’t no schlager. It’s the real deal! Fela KutiHot stix MabuzaMa WilliesBrenda Fassie and contemporary artists such as Black Coffee, Culo De SongOkmalumkoolkat and Wizkid.

I’m already dancing inside. My new jam starts at min 25. Takes me back to 90s tribal house.

Maeshelle West-Davies gleans her varied life experiences to expose a personal perspective through a multitude of mediums. Sound, video, photography, dance, performance and public art are the tools she uses to convey her message. Her work is a response not only to a physical journey, but an emotional one, as with all of us who walk along or beside our individual paths.
