What are your plans for the end of the week in Leipzig? Tonight – Thursday (March 10th) – at 8:30 I’ll be at Poniatowski, Kreuzstr. 15, watching BrewSebs perform live. The band is described as “uniquely old school… The EP ‘Different Songs’ dances and sings but is thoughtful about desire, illusions and analogies – funky, with the subtle touch of jazz and blues, always close to the pulse of rock music.”
Facebook tells me there’s more going on tonight around town. For instance, Richy Rose & Bros at Hilde tanzt, Georg-Schwarz-Str. 20, at 8 – a quartet of voice, keyboards, bass and drums; free entry AND Sekt (!); and Noches Latinas im Beyerhaus, Ernst-Schneller-Str. 6, for Latinos and people from other cultures to chat, share ideas as well as laughter, and dance together – talking from 8-9 p.m., dancing and partying from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. This is now a regular Thursday evening event at Beyerhaus. Diversity proliferates in Leipzig events, as on Friday (March 11th) at 7 p.m., the Afrika “IN” Motion series opens at Kultur Café Leipzig Ost, Eisenbahnstr. 107. There, participants will “indulge in African food, African music and most importantly African culture” through the socio-cultural initiative.
On Saturday (March 12th), in particular, you won’t run out of interesting things to do if you’ve got the energy. There’s a reading flashmob to celebrate 25 years of Leipzig Liest (Buchmesse), at 2 p.m. in the Marktplatz. Then from 6-9 p.m., the Leipzig International School, Könneritzstr. 47, is hosting a benefit concert – free entry, donations welcome – for UNICEF, with live music, snacks and drinks on offer. You can also listen to a choir and orchestra perform Bach music at Thomaskirche at 7:30 p.m.– Johannes-Passion in der Thomaskirche – or go to a big music festival right here in town, 10 Jahre Band Clash Das Festival, with an announced 24 acts, on 3 stages, in one night at Täubchenthal, Markranstädterstr. 1.
