As a satellite of f/stop, Galerie KUB brings us the 8th edition of She Devil, and it’s all about home.
The project She Devil is the brainchild of Stefania Miscetti and seeks to connect and/or confront women by showing the viewpoint of women through their video works as chosen by women curators. What we get is a very intimate and often ironic look at the feminine collective consciousness on themes such as female identity, the body as a vessel for expression, and personal experience.
“I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.” – Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space, 1958
In our current climate, home is perhaps more dynamic than it’s ever been. The Leipzig curators address the issue of migrant mobility and the wave of refugees coming to Europe from homes that no longer exist.
The videos run back to back in a loop, and all have English subtitles. I was only able to stay for 2 on the night I went, but am looking forward to going back for more. The exhibition runs until 8 July.
