Become a Leipzig Glocal contributor

/

The Leipzig Glocal is a small, local outlet that relies heavily on its volunteer contributor community to continue publishing interesting and important stories on a regular basis. Thanks to the lovely and diverse network of writers, friends and supporters we have built over the last almost six years, we are able to publish every week. However, the pandemic has also impeded our regular coverage of nearly everything social happening in Leipzig and across the globe.

So we are asking you if you have a special story you want to share.

We are looking for content that is as diverse and multi-faceted as our community. You do not have to be a professional writer or journalist to submit a story to us. You also do not have to make your story about Covid or lockdown.

The best content comes from your special expertise that connects to the world at large and ideally has a local component.

However, we do ask that you check a few boxes before sending us your first draft:

    • Your topic should be unique and not previously covered in the same manner.
You can use our search bar to make sure your story has not been covered yet.
    • Your article should be between 500-1500 words.
This is our general article size range. Obviously, you can always write more. We can also always discuss splitting your content into a series of articles.
    • You should try to provide visuals that support your story.
Ideally, this means photos that you took yourself or visuals from the public domain. Any other images might be subject to copyright.

We will edit your story according to our standards, meaning we will fact-check, make sure your writing adheres to our magazine’s style, is grammatically correct, and does not go against our values. This is not to dissuade you from writing your own opinion. If it is well thought-out and researched, we are always willing to publish opinion pieces that might diverge from our point of view. Also, you can use a pseudonym if you feel the topic is too sensitive to publish under your real name.

So get going and think of your next big story – as a LeipGlo contributor! 🙂

What have you always wanted to share with the world? What subject matter do you perceive to be underrepresented in public discourse? What socioeconomic issues are not being talked about enough? What piece of culture or media needs to be given a spotlight? What unique experiences lie dormant in your memory and are just waiting to see the light of day?

We want to make The Leipzig Glocal as diverse, open-minded and inviting as possible. Your voices are the central ingredient to make that happen.

Find out some more specific details of what we ask from your submission on our Write for Us page.

Due to financial constraints especially during Covid times, we are unforunately unable to offer community contributors monetary compensation. As a small incentive, we will mail one LeipGlo merch item to the submission from the next two months that gets the most views and/or interaction on our social media channels. The winner gets to choose which item.

We look forward to your submissions and any questions or feedback you might have. Please send them directly to Editor-in-Chief Heiner Uebbing, at heiner@leipglo.com.

Thank you for your continued support!

Heiner Uebbing originally hails from rural Lower Saxony and is based in Leipzig. His passion for film dates back to his teenage years, when he started attending film festivals, writing and corresponding about his experiences. You can probably spot him in one of Leipzig’s OmU/OV screenings in the front rows.
