May 4: With 7 regular columnists and new layout, blog becomes #webzine

/

WorkEthicHappy Labor Day! Today, on the 2-month anniversary of The Leipzig Glocal, I am proud to announce that we’re ready to take the next step on our Web publishing journey. I say “we” because this can only be done with the help of the people who will be contributing their talent to this blog on a regular basis, as of now. On Monday, May 4, we are turning the blog into a “webzine” – meaning more like an online-based magazine than a traditional blog. While I’ll still be sharing my own personal experiences with you and will have a column myself, there will be six other people writing columns on different themes. We’ll have six bi-monthly columns (including my own), one monthly column and space once a month for a guest column. This means new theme-based column content pretty much every other day. Since we’ll have columns on fixed days, you’ll know when to find what on our webzine. Our regular feature OmU movie listing on Wednesdays will stay on, and haikus will run weekly on the right sidebar. I’m adding three others, to encompass Leipzig happenings in general (#LeipzigEvents), my own (random?) musings (#EditorDrawer) and spotlights on cool people I run across (#Personalities). So there will be more organization and less randomness; and this includes fixed #hashtags denominating which section each post belongs to. Though keeping a little randomness is actually good, not to lose the blog feel.

There will also be a new layout and page with information on each of the columnists, so don’t be alarmed when you check out The Leipzig Glocal Monday and come across a totally different look. It just seems to work out better with the new columns than the current layout. And oh, since I’ll be busy working on all that this weekend, besides going to Spinnerei Rundgang, I won’t be posting anything except for my daily haikus this Saturday and Sunday.

Here’s the basic breakdown of our new sections and when they will be running:

Daily and weekly features:

#WeeklyHaiku

#LeipzigEvents

#MoviesOmU

#EditorDrawer

#Personalities

Bi-monthly features (columns):

#ArtsAndCulture – every other Monday with Maeshelle West-Davies
