Movies in English and other original foreign languages in Leipzig

Here’s our regular listing of films being shown in English and other original foreign languages (with labels such as OmU, OF and OV) at Leipzig cinemas for this movie week. We are now running the list each Tuesday. Although not dubbed, the movies often come with German subtitles, so you can still access the movie if you don’t know the original language but know some German. My movie recommendation: “I Want To See The Manager.” It sounds really interesting and if I have time in the midst of my chaotic week (in a good way), I will be sure to go see it. Read more about it under “New this week” right below.

“In the light of the current transformations within the global power structure, I WANT TO SEE THE MANAGER traces the linkage of economic ascent and decline in seven paradigmatic episodes. India, Bolivia, China, USA, Italy, Thailand, Venezuela – each place contains fragments of another; each episode bears testament to the hopes and fears of its protagonists. By juxtaposing these local experiences in the face of global economy, the film questions the notion of rise and decay.” … MORE FROM IMDB

Ohne Rast. Ohne Eile (2015)

Sat 05.09, Mon 07.09, Tue 08.09, Wed 09.09

Cineding: 20:00

“If this were not a documentary, but a French comic book, which tells a fictional story, one could also start as follows: We are in the year 2012. All of Argentina is occupied by multinational agribusinesses. All of Argentina? No! An indigenous-populated region called Monte does not cease to resist the invader. This apparent association with the Asterix comics is chosen not for purely humorous reasons. It applies to the men and women of the farm workers’ movement MoCASeVC, featured in the film; with the difference that it is not being fought here with potions and muscle strength, but with dedication to the cause, belief, love, and not to be neglected with patience and understanding.” … MORE FROM PLAYER:WEB (in German)

Sachamanta (2012)

Thu 03.09, Fr 04.09

Cineding: 22:00

All over the world, large corporations lay hands with impunity on land that does not belong to them. With the help of the local police and army, people are displaced from their farms, where they have lived for generationsBut as one-sided and melodramatic our world is, the documentary SACHAMANTA is a courage-inspiring example of successful resistance. In Argentina, struggling small farmers have for 20 years now successfully resisted land grab by large speculators. The farmers have joined forces into a movement, quite in the sense that ‘together we are strong.'” MORE FROM PLAYER:WEB (in German)
