Jazz Age reloaded: Prohibition Party at Felsenkeller Leipzig

Leipzig’s Felsenkeller is bringing back the spirit of the Roaring Twenties this Saturday, February 8th. The Prohibition Party aims to recreate the atmosphere of a 1920s speakeasy, combining period entertainment – jazz and burlesque! – with the venue’s historic architecture.

From 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM, the Karl-Heine-Straße concert hall will host an evening of looking fabulous, dancing, prosecco-drinking, and enjoying a variety of live acts. Ushering us on this journey through time will be burlesque artist Miss Jolie Papillon (a world performer), hot jazz ensemble Swing’it (from Norway to wider European fame), and the somewhat mysterious, charmingly theatrical singer Champagne Charlie.

The program draws inspiration from the American Prohibition and jazz era, the hedonistic interwar period, and the cultural touchstone of “The Great Gatsby.”

This classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald has seen a resurgence in the 21st century, in the form of a Baz Luhrmann film and tribute events around the world. Felsenkeller, originally built in the neo-baroque style in 1890, has hosted “Gatsby” parties in past years, providing the perfect backdrop for celebrations of 1920s extravagance.

As winter continues, this indoor event gives us the chance to explore a different era of entertainment in the warmth of one of the city’s most distinctive venues. For our modern needs, Felsenkeller is conveniently located next to tram stops and plenty of options for nighttime snacks.

Two ticket options are available for the Prohibition Party (via Eventim): regular admission for about €30 starting at 8:00 PM, and VIP tickets for about €60.

The VIP experience includes early entry from 7:00 PM, an hour of complimentary prosecco, and an opportunity to meet the performers before the main event begins. Guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the evening by donning their finest period attire – think flapper dresses, pinstripe suits, feathers, and pearls.

The combination of live music, performance, and the historic setting should make for a great Saturday night of immersion in the Jazz Age.
