It’s a whole new challenge for me: speaking on the radio. In English AND German (God help me with the latter – really, perhaps only divine inspiration can make me sound intelligible auf Deutsch). Invited by my friend and local celebrity musician Dolus Mutombo, I will appear on Leipzig’s Radio Blau Tuesday, April 14, from 6 to 7 in the evening. I’ll be on the bimonthly multicultural show Zwischenraum, along with Dolus, now a regular contributor, and host Azzeddine Touggourt. We’ll be talking about this blog and what I hope to accomplish, as well as perhaps something about my native Brazil and other places I’ve been, and will play some diverse (including Brazilian) music on air. If you want to give us a listen and are in Leipzig, you can tune into 99.2 FM (Radio Blau’s main frequency), but you can also try 94.4 or 89.2 FM. Those outside of Leipzig and others who prefer to listen to the radio on the Internet can access the show live via this link.

Dolus will make a double appearance on Radio Blau Tuesday evening. He and his music partner, the lovely violinist/singer Giulia Zappalà, will be on David Dichelle‘s show, Continental Subway, broadcast in English, later on at 10 p.m. Here’s a word from David on Radio Blau and his show:

“Radio Blau is an independent, non-commercial community radio station in Leipzig. Its programs are generally musical or political/social in nature. While there is a daily hour of news and features every weekday at 7 p.m., most regular programs air once every two or four weeks. Mostly in German, there are also shows in English (Continental Subway), Italian (Italorama), and Spanish (Radio Babilonia). The station’s main frequency, 99.2 FM, covers most of the city, but local transmitters broadcast Radio Blau at 94.4 and 89.2 FM in different parts of town. The station can be streamed online as well at radioblau.de. Radio Blau broadcasts from Monday to Friday from 6 to 11 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to midnight.

“Broadcasting in English from Leipzig, Continental Subway is a live hour-long radio show on Radio Blau every other Tuesday at 10 p.m. The show features both thematic and freeform hours of music from around the world. It also serves as a platform in English for international musicians to perform, and for people from all walks of life to talk about their lives and experiences and share their interests, whether musical or cultural. There is a show page at https://facebook.com/ContinentalSubway and previous shows can be found at https://mixcloud.com/ContinentalSubway.”
