#MoviesOmU: Movies in English and other original foreign languages in Leipzig, October 14-21

//

Here’s our regular listing of films being shown in English and other original foreign languages, and sometimes German with foreign partnerships, at Leipzig cinemas for this movie week. Although not dubbed, the movies often come with German or even English subtitles, so you might still be able to access the film if you don’t know the language being spoken.

What the labels mean: OmU – Original with German subtitles; OmeU – Original with English subtitles; OF – Original film; OV – Original version.

We start our listing with movies in the original from the festival Asynchron, which features documentaries and experimental films on the Holocaust, playing at Cineding. This Friday, check back here to read the review I wrote of the Hollywood movie “Sicario,” one of the films dominating Leipzig cinemas this movie week. It’s playing in English at Kinobar Prager Frühling every day this Thursday-Wednesday.

Asynchron Fest @ Cineding

  • Voices from the Attic – Documentary | USA 1988 | Director: Debbie Goodstein | English, OmU

Mon 19.10 @ 20:00

“Filmmaker Debbie Goodstein travelled to Poland to explore the ordeal her mother and sixteen family members experienced when hiding in the attic of a peasant’s home for two years during the Second World War. Though long a family secret, this grueling experience had continued to reverberate through the lives of those who survived it and was unconsciously passed on to the their offspring as well. Accompanied by her Aunt Sally Frishberg, who was one of the sixteen, and five of her cousins, Goodstein recorded this haunting, and ultimately liberating, voyage of discovery. Wed 21.10 @ 20:00

“Dark Lullabies is a film about a generation possessed by a history in which it played no part. The filmmaker, Irene Lilienheim Angelico, brilliantly explores the impact of the Holocaust on a generation of Jews and Germans born after the war. Now, years later, many children of the survivors feel deeply affected by their parents’ ordeal, just as their German contemporaries live with a burden of guilt, or often denial, about the crimes of their parents’ generation.” MORE FROM DLI PRODUCTIONS
