HomeLE – Gohlis Café opening

/

Most finish their countdown on New Year’s eve – but not Maike Steuer, who made it to the January 2 deadline for the opening of a new intercultural café in Gohlis, homeLE.

The café was nine months in the making, including a switch in location from September, giving her just enough time to move into the newly renovated premises on the corner of Georg-Schumann-Straße and Mottelerstraße.

It was an area lacking a ‘niche’ café. Maike hopes this will be to her advantage, saying that the interest in her project has been positive towards promoting engagement with the local community in Gohlis.

HomeLE will provide a place to meet, exchange ideas, become inspired, and offer a space for workshops, seminars, concerts, as well as themed brunches – all valuing cultural diversity and within a family friendly layout.

The opening at 2pm was followed by a short speech and a glass of bubbly, before the coffee began to brew, accompanied by Maike’s signature waffles and a birthday cake.  Over 40 visitors mingled and enjoyed meeting new faces, which stood out to Maike as the major achievement of the day – seeing her hopes become a reality within an hour of opening her doors.

The HomeLE café will be open for morning and afternoon tea, as well as for lunch from Tuesday, January 5.  For more information, visit their website.
