Freiimfelde‬: Empty? or a blank canvas?

/

Halle’s Freiimfelde area had long since been abandoned when organiser Danillo Halle had the idea to revitalise it, turning buildings into urban canvases. His program, Freiraumgalerie, (Open Space Gallery) began in 2012 as an artistic and cultural platform that dares to experiment with local perceptions of space and neighbourhood problems.

Local and international artists (like ones we met at IBUg, the Belarusian couple Key Detail and yubaba and the Mexican artist Farid Rueda) and residents and children and young people of the Freiimfelde district contributed to shaping this urban landscape.

Though the All You Can Paint Festivals took place in September 2012 and June 2013, they increased the attention for the quarter and while we were there we saw guys spraying who had traveled from other towns just to add their handiwork. It continues to be reshaped through varied free workshops and cultural programs.
