In good company: finances to AI

//

It’s almost here! In 11 days, the Leipzig Glocal Job Fair at WERK 2 will bring together more than 20 companies seeking talented internationally-minded people in Leipzig. We thought it important for you to get more insight into who these diverse exhibitors are, and what they look for in job applicants, ahead of the event.

To that end, we asked them questions about their particular company culture, their expectations as employers, and how they help their staff balance their work-life commitments.

Today we present you the following job fair exhibitors: rate comparison giant Verivox, which have several positions open in the IT, financial, and customer service fields; language school inlingua, offering various freelance teaching positions; and Artificial Intelligence (AI) developers d25.io, which need help expanding their interesting and innovative machine learning services.

Meet Verivox

What is your company about?

Verivox is part of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, and is one of the leading independent online consumer portals in Germany. Since 1998, our mission has been to help consumers get the best deals for electricity, gas, DSL, mobile phones, finances, insurances, real estate, cars, motorbikes, and travel. More than 8 million happy customers have compared prices, and then changed their provider.

We are a fast-growing and profitable company and continuously strive to improve our services. Whether at any of our 10 locations in Germany or in Switzerland: We are one team aiming to give our customers a better experience every day.

What is your company culture like?

Flat hierarchies as well as innovative and dynamic processes help us in achieving our goals – while still having fun and being part of a team.

We use state of the art technology and encourage ourselves to learn something new every day. At Verivox, you can find a perfect environment to promote new ideas in a company where high trust, high alignment, and high autonomy are important parts of your daily work.

Let’s go beyond the CV. What kind of candidate fits your company culture?

We are looking for candidates who can identify themselves with our company values:

1) Customers are always the focus of our actions;
2) We are ONE team;
3) We strive for excellence;
4) We are brave enough to try new things and quickly learn from our mistakes – “fail fast and learn;”
5) We encourage and support responsibility and self-determination;
6) We do not just “work.”

Let’s say that a candidate does not have a degree or work experience directly related to your company’s services. Would you still consider hiring them?

At Verivox, we value a proactive mindset and willingness to make things happen, more than hard facts like a specific degree or amount of work experience. If candidates have the right attitude towards their profession, they will surely have a successful career at Verivox.

Work-life balance. How does your company accommodate professional development of your employees and their personal lives?

Our employees have the freedom to shape their working environment.

Flexible working hours with home office possibility are part of our philosophy. Furthermore, Verivox organizes health days and promotes the opportunity to take part in different kinds of company sports activities.

You can also find a huge variety of learning offerings at Verivox. Conference visits and training sessions are part of our culture; they are not only offered, but desired.

Meet inlingua

What is your company about?

inlingua Leipzig is one of the leading language schools in Leipzig. We offer a wide range of language courses as well as TESOL courses.

From January, we will also offer “Disney English” (English courses for children, 3 to 10 years old). In addition, we offer translation and interpreting services as well as language trips to almost every country in the world. For us, it is very important to encourage students to talk and interact from the very beginning.

What is your company culture like?

We aim to create a supportive environment and positive atmosphere. We value good communication, training and support. We are also a young and enthusiastic team. Most of us are friends outside of work as well. This helps make communication easy and, if any problems occur, we do not hesitate to talk to one another to solve the issue together.

Let’s go beyond the CV. What kind of candidate fits your company culture?

Our team is very international. Each one of us has different experiences and backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common: We love teaching! Our trainers are eager to learn, motivated, open-minded, and friendly. The working environment is collaborative and upbeat. If you are someone who values variety in their work, you’d fit in well.

Let’s say that a candidate does not have a degree or work experience directly related to your company’s services. Would you still consider hiring them?

We hire trainers with or without experience. We provide materials, training and general support to all of our trainers, so even though experience is an asset, new trainers are also very successful.

A TESOL, TEFL, CELTA or equivalent qualification is a must, as it makes a great difference in the quality of teaching. Though we do hire trainers without experience, we still need to make sure we maintain our high standard of teaching.

If you are interested in teaching, but lack the proper certification, why not register for our in-class TESOL course?

Work-life balance. How does your company accommodate professional development of your employees and their personal lives?

Most of our trainers are freelancers, so the working hours are flexible and tend to vary from week to week. We consider their availability when planning. We try to be accommodating and understand when trainers have different needs or preferences.

Meet d25.io

What is your company about?

We aim to provide a platform where everyone can build their own AI. Customers can choose between a pre-trained or self-training AI. In addition, our innovative pipeline concept can combine all AIs with each other. They don’t need any deeper tech knowledge to build & train their individual AI. Customers choose from one of our ready-to-use products like the d25 Monitor and start using it.

In other words, with our d25 platform, you don’t need to be a data scientist to create and use your own AI. Use our SDKs to integrate your AI solutions directly into your app, website or server, with just a few lines of code.

What is your company culture like?

Mindfulness, selflessness and pragmatic craftsmanship are core to our company culture – from daily interactions to how we get things done. We trust in each other. Everyone is empowered to make decisions, communication is transparent, and we are obsessed with our own productivity.

Mentorship, honest feedback, and free executive coaching help us grow in all directions, both professionally and personally. On top of that, we have a weekly team breakfast.

Let’s go beyond the CV. What kind of candidate fits your company culture?

We don’t care about degrees or grades. We are interested in the people behind the CV and if they are team players. We want people who can give 100 percent at work and take responsibility early on. Our employees should also be able to contribute their own solutions.

Let’s say that a candidate does not have a degree or work experience directly related to your company’s services. Would you still consider hiring them?

As already said, we don’t care about degrees. The most important thing is commitment and knowledge. If a candidate has no working experience but a good knowledge of a special topic and fits the team, we would hire that candidate. Knowledge of the field is critical, as we do not have the resources to train people starting from AI 101.

Work-life balance. How does your company accommodate professional development of your employees and their personal lives?

Work-life balance is important for us. We offer our employees a lot of freedom in everything that they do. Our mission is a happy employee. They get a nextbike membership, height-adjustable desks and community events at Basislager.
